FAN High School Fishing takes Central Qualifier #2 to Lake Belton October 13th Presented by
As we dry off from a soggy season opener on Lake Travis, the rain brought big smiles for the Tiger Bass fishing team of Chase Whisenant and Connor Horst with Captain Brandt Whisenant who brought home the win with an impressive limit weighing 16.22 pounds. Earning the second-place spot representing Guardians Bass Club was the team of Logan Bourgeois and Kaden Wiedenfeld with 5 bass weighing 12.64 pounds. Coming in third with 11.99 pound including the 5.10 Kistler Big Bass of the day was the All Around Angler team of Gage White and Rayon Shah.
And now the race is on for the chance to qualify for the FAN HSF Championship with over $13,000 in Scholarship funds this season. The FAN High School Fishing Tournament Series will see some of Central and South Texas’ best student anglers compete in 3 divisional qualifiers and a Wild Card event to earn a chance at the 2019 Championship presented by Berkley. Student Anglers in each division will be competing for the Academy Sports + Outdoors Angler of the Year, which includes a $1,000 Scholarship and the Berkley Select Angler Program.
The second Central Division qualifier will be held at Temple Lake Park on Belton Lake.
Belton Lake is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Leon River in the Brazos River basin, 5 miles northwest of Belton. Impounded in 1954 with 12,385 surface acres and a maximum depth of 125 feet, this lake has a reputation to hold some of the biggest and meanest small mouth bass in Central Texas along with a vibrant largemouth and spotted bass habitat.
