FAN Central held their second qualifier on Lake LBJ last weekend. Due to freezing weather conditions, it was the first trailering event of the season. With 285 student anglers and captains attending, we were truly blessed to have the weather cooperate with us on Sunday.
A total of 95 teams gave it their best effort for a shot at the win and also for those highly important AOY points and the chance to qualify for the 2022 Championship with over $15,000 in scholarships and the coveted Angler(s) of the Year title.
Ty Mechler and Christian Garcia with Captain Douglas Garcia took the win with a 5 fish limit weighing 14.21 pounds. They both took home a trophy, Kistler Rods, and valuable points. Captain Douglas won the Academy Sports+Outdoors Gift Card. – The smiles say it all. Good job team!
Taking the second spot was the Liberty Hill Fishing Team of Barrett Grey and Eric Walker with Captain Ethan Walker. If you’re only going to catch two, then these are the right two to bring to the scales. They had a total weight of 8.27 pounds. They each took home a trophy and Kistler Series 2 reels.
Finishing third was the team of Eli Christian and Cooper Kennell with Captain James Kennell. They brought in 3 fish weighing a total of 8.21 pounds. They each won an Abu Garcia Revo X in addition to trophies and a chance to head to the Championship in May.
Josh and Cameron Calhoun won a Kistler Rod for the Big Bass weighing 7.41 pounds.
