High School Fishing Championship to be Held at Famous Lake Conroe

Austin, TX: Since 2008, Faith Angler Network (FAN) has been hosting competitive and professionally run bass fishing tournaments, and youth outreach events, that embrace the power faith and fishing can have on the lives of middle and high school students. The all-volunteer staff of FAN’s Central and South Texas divisions are committed to building character, inspiring faith-seeking, encouraging competitive sportsmanship, and developing well-rounded leaders.

FAN is excited to announce that the 2018-19 Championship will be held on Lake Conroe and hosted by Visit Conroe May 18th-19th, 2019. We will be recognizing the best middle and high school anglers in Central and South Texas and awarding over $10,000 in scholarships and prizes. All qualifiers will receive a free entry to the championship tournament.

“We are thrilled to bring the FAN High School Fishing Championship to Lake Conroe, hosted by Visit Conroe,†stated Jeff Cook, Executive Director of FAN. “Shannon Overby and the Visit Conroe team have rolled out the red carpet and are as excited as we are to bring the Championship to this world class fishery,†Jeff said.

Lake Conroe has hosted some of the top fishing tournaments in the country The 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic and The Toyota Texas Bass Classic were held on Lake Conroe for five consecutive years from 2009 –2013 and recently MLF Bass Pro Tour names Lake Conroe as Its second destination on the 2019 schedule Feb. 12-17 which makes it very exciting for FAN to hold our championship on a nationally recognized fishery.

The 21,000-acre fishery located off the West Fork of San Jacinto River in Montgomery and Walker counties has a very healthy largemouth bass population in an equally healthy ecosystem with excellent water quality. This translates not only into good numbers of bass, but good numbers of big bass with favorable odds of some double-digits that could be weighed in during the FAN Championship. Seventeen largemouth bass over 13 pounds have been entered into the Toyota ShareLunker Program with the most recent in 2015, and the lake is prime to add to the count.
Conroe, recently named the fastest growing city in the United States, has a great mix of attractions and experiences you just can’t find anywhere else. It is located 40 miles north of Houston amidst the piney woods of Southeast Texas. It is bordered by a 22,000-acre lake with 156 miles of continuous shoreline, the Sam Houston National Forest, and the W. Goodrich Jones State Forest. While primarily known as an outdoors-man’s paradise, Conroe also offers a distinctive and thriving arts and cultural scene. Montgomery County, of which Conroe is the county seat, is the birthplace of the Texas flag. Historic downtown Conroe is home to arts, culture, shopping, and local dining.
Visit Conroe is proud to partner with Faith Angler Network to host the Faith Angler Network High School Fishing State Championship. “We look forward to a successful event and a long-term partnership,†Stated Shannon Overby, Director of Visit Conroe.
