The third FAN Qualifier of the season will be held on Choke Canyon Reservoir. The tournament will be hosted by Bass Club of Champions, and presented by Kistler Rods, for a chance to qualify for the Championship in May with over $15,000.00 in scholarships and prizesThe logo for kistler on a green background.

Food- Bass Club of Champions will be serving FOOD for a great cause! Two of our student anglers are running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Student Campaign.  They are representing the Boerne area in hopes of raising $50,000 to donate to LLS to eliminate blood cancers in the future!  We will be serving sausage wraps and hotdogs, a bag of chips and water for $10 DONATION.  Please come hungry to support these student anglers and LLS!!

Halfway through the season, the AOY race is still anybody’s game.  Approaching Spring-time at Choke Canyon is always a big bag opportunity.

THIS EVENT WILL BE A CONTROLLED LAUNCH FROM CALLIHAM.

WE WILL NOT BE USING GROUP ME FOR THIS TOURNAMENT 

Boats will be released in numerical order.  Boat numbers will be assigned Thursday night.  You must check-in at Calliham in the morning to get your boat number card.  Use this card to find your place in line as we release boats at safe light (about 7:00) following the National Anthem and a prayer!

The gate to Choke Canyon State Park – Calliham will open at 5AM.

There is a self-pay station at the gate but you can get your pass the night before or ONLINE to eliminate any line at the gate!

Please be courteous & helpful at the boat ramp.  There are lots of lanes so please maximize their use.

AND PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR HEAD LIGHTS WHEN BACKING DOWN!

 Boat launching will start at 5am, to facilitate everyone getting in the water before take off. PLEASE BE SAFE!

Scales will open at noon, YOU MUST BE CHECKED IN BY Your Boat Number designated time

ALL ANGLERS MUST CHECK IN AT WEIGH-IN REGARDLESS IF THEY ARE WEIGHING FISH OR NOT. FAILURE TO CHECK IN WILL RESULT IN A LOSS OF TOURNAMENT/AOY POINTS. FAN NEEDS TO KNOW EVERYONE IS SAFE AND OFF THE WATER.

EVERYONE MUST PHYSICALLY CHECK IN AT THE WEIGH IN LOCATION IN THE MORNING AND THE END OF THE TOURNAMENT – NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

YOU MUST HAVE AN ADULT CAPTAIN AND TWO QUALIFIED STUDENTS OR YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Only Captains and student anglers are allowed on the boat during the tournament.

Guides are eligible as a boat captain as long as they have not guided. 

in the past 30 days on tournament waters. Boat captains, coaches, parents 

and/or participating student anglers are prohibited from fishing with guides 30 

days prior to ANY event. This includes getting fishing locations or GPS Coordinates.  

 Please understand this means any person who in any shape or form has identified themselves via social media, website, or public forum as a guide.  

We strive to eliminate any gray area and potential loophole while operating under grace. If you have any question about this, please reach out to the tournament director ASAP – Do not wait until the 30-day period had passed or days before the tournament.  Do not risk being ineligible to participate in our events.  

Who is eligible? Registration is open to all 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students. The entry fee for the Choke Canyon Tournament is $50 a boat with two team members and a qualified captain. Each team member must be a FAN member. Contestants must also have the signature of a parent or legal guardian in the provided space on the liability form of the online membership registration. Each team must consist of two eligible student contestants and one adult boat captain.

Weigh inYOU MUST BE checked in by your boat number group time. If you are not weighing in fish, you still need to check in to indicate you are off the lake or you will not be awarded points.

 Registration-

All teams must register by Wednesday, February 28th at 9:00 PM CST.  The registration deadline is the Wednesday prior to the tournament via online registration and online payment only.  Late registrations may be considered Saturday for complete teams only and will be added to the bottom of the boat launch sequence. About the lake-

Choke Canyon Reservoir is 4 miles (6 km) west of the town of Three Rivers and about 65 miles (105 km) south of the city of San Antonio. It impounds water from the Frio River shortly before the river’s confluence with the Nueces River. The reservoir covers 25,670 acres (103.9 km²) in Live Oak and McMullen counties, and has a capacity of more than 695,000 acre-feet (857,000,000 m3) of water.

Choke Canyon Reservoir has been stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Fish present in Choke Canyon Reservoir include alligator garwhite basswhite crappiecatfish, and largemouth basssunfish, and bluegill. Plant life in the lake includes American pondweedcoontailwater stargrassrushescattail, and hydrilla.

It is also the westernmost range of the American Alligator.

The site hosted a rare bird, a Spotted Rail, in December 2020, attracting hundreds of birdwatchers. The record represents the 3rd record of the species for Texas, and the 4th for the United States.

Lake records include All-Age Largemouth bass of 15.45# in January 2009 and Youth Largemouth bass of 11.71# in July 2008!

Captain Incentives- (Must be present to win)
Captains will be recognized with the Captains Awards including a $50  gift card for the winning Captain and another $50 gift card in a random Captains drawing.

 Championship Eligibility-

To be eligible for the championship, the angler must have fished at least 3 of the 4 qualifying tournaments. To qualify you must be in the:

  • Top 10% in each Qualifying Event
  • Top 50% of qualifying anglers based on their total points.

Angler-of-the-Year Scholarship Awards: A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to the highest-finishing angler. Plus, a custom FAN AOY Jersey, presented by OT Wear – Official Fishing Jersey for FAN.

The FAN “OT Wear Team of the Year” Awards: The highest finishing team wearing OT Wear fishing jerseys will receive a $750 scholarship award.

Championship Scholarships – This season we will award $12,000 in scholarships and award the top 5 places at the Championship Tournament.
